The first step was to explore the effectiveness of this action program for environmental awareness and action of third-grade students in knowledge, attitudes and behaviors of waste treatment. Secondly, discuss the reaction of the third-grade students when using picture book to implement the waste treatmen courses. Finally, this paper offered concrete recommendations based on the research results. This study employed the action research method. The author designed the picture book teaching activities. In the study, pertinent data were collected through literature gathering, observation, videotaping, worksheets and interviews, and the collected data were thereafter coded, translated and transcribed. Moreover, data of each teaching activity, which reflects the objective and method of this study, were written in the form of introspective diary for introspection and interpretation. Conclusions were drawn as follows: 1. Analaysis of the pre-test and post-test indicated that integrating the picture book into waste treatment course promoted the learning effectiveness of the pupils in terms of knowledge, attitude and behavior. Feedbacks and interviews also showed that the subjects were rich in knowledge, positive attitude and behavior after they finished the course. 2. Research subjects showed positive attitudes toward the use of the picture book to carry out waste treatment courses and demonstrated high degree of willingness to learn and participate in the class actively. 3.Although difficulties were encountered with audio-visual media, teaching processes, and student classroom responses while using the picture book to implement waste treatment course, the researcher found ways to deal with the problems. Finally, this paper offered concrete recommendations based on the research results for educators.
