According to the statistics, there will be a catastrophic damage caused by earthquake every15-20 years, resulted in serious casualties and property losses. In recent 20 years, there three earthquakes which caused major damages and economic losses are: “Chi-Chi Earthquake” in September 21, 1999, ”Shin-Hwa Earthquake” in February 6, 2016 and ”Hualien Earthquake” in February 6, 2018. Those buildings which suffered serious damage and property losses were all built during 1961 to 1996. These buildings themselves did not exceeded the 50 years lifetime limit. However, there must be some damages after all those earthquakes occurred. Therefore, reinforcement for structural strengthening is very important. In addition to enhance the durability of the building, but also to enhance the earthquake resistance capability. There are several methods of structure rehabilitation which are used commonly in Taiwan: (1) Column Enlarge (2) Shear Wall Reinforcement (3) Strengthen with Wing Wall (4) Energy Dissipation Damper Device (5) Anchor Type Carbon Fiber Retrofitting (6) Structural cracks filling with EPOXY. Most of the rehabilitation methods are enhance the strength of building structure, in order to resist earthquakes. Energy Absorb Damper Device is the only way to transfer and reduce the energy of earthquakes. This thesis is discussing about the case of current reinforced concrete strengthening method of installing Unbounded Braced Frame-Fluid Viscous Damper.
