Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣師範大學 === 美術學系 === 106 === In the field of pornography research, Taiwan is based on heterosexual experiences and lacks the voice of homosexuality. Based on this, I set out as a gay man to specifically examine the visual context of gay videos of gay viewers and analyze the life practices of gay viewers referring to gay videos.
In order to understand the gender politics and substantive connotation behind the gay men's viewing experiences and references of gay videos, I interviewed in depth six gay men born in Taiwan in the 1990s with below questions according to the principle of stratified sampling and purposive sampling:
First, what is the commonality, difference, and purpose of gay men watching gay videos?
Secondly, how do gay men imitate gay videos in their sex/gender/body practices?
The main findings of this paper are as follows:
First, all six gay men were exposed to gay videos during their teenage years; they all watch gay videos free on the Internet; they prefer to watch gay videos alone; they usually watch their favorite gay videos quickly, intermittently, and partially; they each have their own preferred types of gay video and the types also reflect to their sexual practices; their motivations for watching gay videos is mainly to spend the time or masturbation.
Secondly, in the discussion of sexual posture/sexual knowledge, rape, condom usage, all six gay men were restricted to socialized discipline, punishment, surveillance, guidance, and control, and as a result, they have experienced more complicated struggles and negotiations in the process of imitation of gay videos. However, in regards of body, they consider the body figure as a visual presence of masculinity. On one hand, gay men who do not meet the body type standard are derogated; on the other hand, they cannot realize the privilege and benefit of having a standard body type meeting the mainstream preference of gay culture which enhance indirectly the body image of hegemonic masculinity. However, unless gay men do not identify their own body types, they usually choose to watch porn actors who have similar body types in order to participate in the world of pornography.
This essay sees that gay men use the same approach to learn to become different from gay video viewing experiences in both individual and organizational points of view and in both micro and macro perspectives.
