The subjects of study included six preschool children of ages from five to six, three boys and three girls. In the study, twelve life education picture books were selected as the children’s reading materials, and the Mandala jiugongge thinking method was used as the children's learning tool. In addition to eight reading comprehension questions, documents and scoring tables, and audio and video recordings of activities, the data of the study included the children’s productions of Mandala story sequence maps, mandala story structure maps, and mandala expanding thinking maps. In analysis, the study employed the triangulation method, using the qualitative research supplemented by quantitative scoring tables, to analyze the children's understanding of life education picture books. The results of this study revealed: 1. Children’s reading comprehension of life education picture books may be enhanced through the use of different types of mandala thinking methods. 2. Story structure teaching can increase children's levels of reading comprehension of life education picture book stories. 3. The Mandala's thinking method provides children with different thinking modes and promotes their formation of thinking about life issues. 4. Children would still use the Mandala's thinking method even without the aid of scaffolding. Finally, according to the results of this study, suggestions were provided to teachers, parents, and researchers. WU, LI-YUAN 吳麗媛 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 153 zh-TW
