Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 數位學習科技學系碩博士班 === 106 === This study combines pop-up books and mobile game to build an adventure puzzle game named “Mast Dream”. This study aims to use this game to promote the interaction between the readers and history. Primary school students can have fun while learning the history of Taiwan during the Dutch colonization. Based on GNS Theory, including Gamism, Narrativism, and Simulationism, the design of Mast Dream can enhance students’ experience of Flow.
The experiment of this study was divided into two parts. In the first part, the participants were 44 primary school students between the ages of 10 and 12. First, students’ background experiences to digital games were investigated. Second, the research used pre-test and post-test of the game to measure students’ learning outcomes. Students’ Flow status was measured by the Flow questionnaire. Furthermore, the researcher analyzed students’ game status by observation. In the second part, the research’s participants were 5 primary school teachers over 40 years old. The first step of the experiment was to investigate teachers’ background experiences in teaching and in using digital games. Second, questionnaire of the GNS Theory and interviews were used to analyze teachers’ views to the design of “Mast Dream.” The results showed that students’ history knowledge has reached significant difference.
In the results of Flow status, students’ Flow status changed from “relaxation” and “control” in game level 1, “flow” and “arousal” in game level 2, to “anxiety” in game level 3. From the results of learning effectiveness, the researcher finds the scores of the second level of the post-test was better than other levels. Therefore, the game can take students into the flow status of learning as “flow” and “arousal” were aimed while designing the learning game. Furthermore, the GNS immersion status of the game was also achieved. It is concluded that the immersive premises of GNS theory can help to identify the success and problems of the game design.
