Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 國語文學系碩士班 === 106 ===   In the chaos of 1949, journalist Cheng Can-Po(1903-1990) followed the troop of government R.O.C. crossing the strait to Taiwan. Cheng was the man who have talents in politic, academic and cultural proficiency, associated with the favorites in government office, generals in army, not mentioned cultural elites in press media, education, law making and art field.   This thesis base on the study results of social intercourse on calligraphy in recent years, focusing on the research of Cheng Can-Po’s articles and calligraphy, in materials including original documents, catalogs, from personal collection to auction market. This thesis consists with four chapters, complementary with introduction, conclusion and biography. The content are as follow:   1. “Family life and background.” This chapter illustrate Cheng’s early life— under the guideline of Qian Ming-Shan(1875-1944) studying classical literary works, to his domesticity, and his participant in townsmen association activities. These events portrayed Cheng’s social circles and interpersonal expansion, from his youth to the elderliness.   2. “Recipient of calligraphy activities and relevance to his social network.” This chapter discuss Cheng’s calligraphy works, comparing with his personal writings and documents, and the one with receivers’ commentary, finding out his mentation and social condition while writing.   3. “The content of social intercourse on calligraphy.” By collecting and generalizing Cheng’s calligraphy, this chapter mainly focus on, under what circumstances the works has done, in different tendency and format.   4. “Learning process and forming personal style.” In this chapter discussing his calligraphy teacher, learning process and personal style, finally his mature and accomplishment in calligraphy.   Throughout this case study, the author acknowledged that Mr. Cheng is not only a respectable journalist, who have influence in political stages, but also an outstanding calligrapher. The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate his life, personality and achievement in calligraphy, reintroducing them to academic world.
