Summary: | 博士 === 國立清華大學 === 教育與學習科技學系 === 106 === The study aims to explore the image transformation for the ideal teachers, which due to the change of the teacher education in nine normal schools over different periods between 1945 and 2017. This study is a qualitative research, which takes history as the main streamline while document analysis and interview are the main research methods. Seventeen interviewees who had studied in normal schools, normal colleges, normal colleges and education universities were interviewed.
Through interviews and encoding via verbatim transcription, the actual situation of teacher’s training in each period is reproduced, and the ideal teacher images of every period are analyzed. The researchers drew conclusions from the study and made specific advice for the teacher training policies, teacher training institutions, and future research directions. The following are the five conclusions the researchers drew from the study:
I. The policy, system, and regulation have influenced the transformation of centers for teacher education, and the image for ideal teachers has been tending specialized in each field.
II. The effects of the politics toward teacher education had decreased, and the image for ideal teachers had altered from party-country ideology and patriotism towards general personalities such as responsibility, genuineness, and passion.
III. During the time of normal schools and normal colleges, student teachers were expected to have a strong responsibility for being a teacher. As for the time of normal colleges and education universities, the emphasis was more on the professional growth.
IV. Normal schools and normal colleges put more emphasis on the discipline of group, while normal colleges and education universities considered self-responsibility and self-regulation more important.
V. Normal school paid attention to the labor productivity of a teacher, and normal colleges value teachers who were able to take care of the whole class. As for normal colleges and education universities, the image for ideal teachers was effected by the announcement of Teacher Education White Paper and Professional Standards for Teachers, which had become more specific and standardized.
