However, women’s Dixi groups and trans-territoral Dixi organizations have been emerging in recent years. To understand this phenomenon, this research explores how the heritagization process provides values and opportunities as resources of local reconstruction and trans-territory connection. The process generates an annual local performance that transcends the original community structure, making it goes beyond local scale with its very own sociality. In this research, mid-1980’s and 21th century are set as two stages of heritagization process. Because of transnationalism, state power and local faction, Dixi has started to produce its own narrative, position, and value since mid-1980’s; further, Dixi is considered a key resource under the heritage regime and local development agenda in 21th century. From the ethnographic cases in this study, it appears that Dixi develops more practices beyond annual local performances during the process of heritagization. The elements of performance are now fragmented as Dixi is recontextualized. Hence, the expression “Heritage at large” is to convey how the heritagization process has been being practiced and self-identification is defined by the modern Dixi community.
