Along with the dramatic transformation of the social norms and ideology in recent social development, the concept of family evolved and started to become diverse as well. Recent studies indicated that the visibility of single-parent families (including pseudo-single parents) noticeably increased in our surrounding, yet the academic attention to this postmodern-type of family was few, especially in leisure-related discipline. On the basis of this omission, the purpose of this study attempted to focus on single-parent families, and adopt the theory of leisure constraints and negotiation to exams their possibilities and difficulties of leisure participation, and further compared their leisure experience to the pseudo-single family. The in-depth interviews were utilized for understanding the research inquiry, and totally 8 single parents and 5 pseudo-single parents were recruited from year 2016-2017. According to the data analysis, the following conclusions were made: Firstly, the SES status plays significant role in constraints they encountered in their daily lives, yet the agency and entitlement to leisure of primary care-givers determine the negotiation strategies they adopt for their leisure participation. Besides, the traditional types of leisure constraints could not successfully apply to those families unless we could thoroughly understand the culture context they experienced.
