The repairable system consists of M identical operating components, S standby components, and a repairman. When an operating component fails, it is immediately replaced by a standby component. The failed component will be repaired immediately if the repairman is idle. If the repairman is busy, the failed component enters into the orbit and tries to get the repair. When there are no failed components in the system, the repairman takes vacations. During a vacation period, the failed component is repaired at a lower rate by the repairman. At a repair completion instant, if there are failed components in the system, the repairman will come back to the normal working period. At the end of vacations, the repairman takes another vacation if no failed components appear in the system. We assume that failure times of operating and standby components according to a Poisson process, and repair and retrial times of failed components, and vacation times of the repairman are all exponential distributions. For this system, we develop the system reliability and the steady-state availability. Through numerical computations, a sensitivity analysis is carried out to investigate the impacts of various system parameters on the system reliability and the steady-state availability.
