Thus, the main objective of this work was to evaluate the benefits obtained from one of the alternatives for management of methane gas generated from a selected non-hazardous industrial waste landfill in Taiwan. To meet this end, the following studies were carried out: (1) investigation of the concentration and production of methane gas generated from each biogas well in the said landfill; (2) investigation of the concentration and production of methane gas generated from a sealed biogas well subjected to a practice of active gas pumping; (3) application of the Landfill Gas Emission (LandGEM) Model developed by US EPA to estimate the landfill gas emission and methane production from the said target landfill; and (4) estimation of various benefits resulting from the best practice for methane management in terms of power generation, carbon footprint reduction, and volume of landfill subsidence. The results showed that methane gas accounted for a mean value of 29.47 vol% of landfill gas (LFG) generated from a total of 34 biogas wells in the said landfill. In this work Biogas Well D25 was selected to seal its cap for the practice of active gas pumping at a LFG flowrate of 79.73 L/min. It was determined that methane accounted for 76 vol% of LFG produced from Biogas Well D25 and its yearly production would be 26,151 m3. Based on the results obtained above, a total production of 344,755 m3 of methane gas from 34 biogas wells in the said landfill was estimated. Further, by using the LandGEM Model the total power generation, total carbon footprint reduction, and total volume of landfill subsidence estimated for the period of 2011-2060 would be 23,506,069 kWh, 150,514 tCO2e, and 219,000 m3 (space suitable for landfilling 230,000 tons of waste), respectively.
