The idea of combining elements from the early music with modern tonal language and compositional techniques is in Hindemith’s works. Trauermusik, belongs to Hindemith’s late period, was composed in 1936. In this piece, Hindemith combines elements and compositional techniques from his Symphony and Concerto with the Bach’s chorale, Baroque’ s church sonata and cyclic form. In this piece, the influence of Gebrauchsmusik and through the familiar elements to narrow the gap between the audience. This essay consists of four chapters, an introduction, and the conclusion. The first chapter introduces Hindemith’s life. The second chapter explores the Hindemith’s composition style. The third chapter presents the compositional background of the Trauermusik and analysis.
