Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東科技大學 === 木材科學與設計系所 === 106 === In recent years, with the soaring popularity of Maker Education, this research aims at developing the skills of learning through making, thinking and basic social. Therefore, an assembly house toy is chosen for further discussion as an educational toy. Through practical machine operation and hand decoration, the children assembly house will be created and presented. The record of the design and creating process will be regarded as a reference for readers to apply on their further studies. The conclusion of the research is summarized as below: 1.With collecting online information and literature reviews, this research elaborates on analyzing the toys which is beneficial for children development, simplified design, the concept of Maker Education and the decision on materials. The purpose of this educational toy is to approach the idea of learning by making. Consequently, this is the reason why toddlers are targeted in this research. In order to accord with their ages and both mental and physical developments, the method of simplified design is determined and wood texture will be utilized at the progress of creating the model house. 2.Children assembly house toys are spotlighted in the research, and the structures are taken as references and inspirations. Based on the products, three degree of difficulties are listed as follows from the less complicated part to the intricate one during the installation process: first, the floors and walls, secondly the furniture and thirdly the whole structure of the house. The children will begin with assembling and matching up geometric models, soon they could ascend to the level of installing 3D model with 2D components through mortise-and-tenon joint, finally, with the concept of space, the assembly toy house will come to life in 3D and the other components could be arranged and settled sooner or later. 3.As for the furniture, Chinese style furniture is chosen because of its relatively obvious characteristics. The children could learn how to keep and duplicate the spirits and specialties of eastern furniture by simplifying and extracting its shapes and parts. Through a precise detection on real furniture from different angles, they would drift on the contour of the furniture and get the hang of how to well preserve the crucial parts for proceeding to the next step. 4.For accelerating working efficiency, solid wood would be processed and cut to size for the building structure of the model house. By using woodworking machines, all the ingredients could be prepared in proper size at the same time. Through this way, a bunch of time could be saved on adjusting size issue on machine. However, when it comes to the floors, walls and furniture, it turns out to be extremely complex and time consuming if we try to make it smaller without changing the scale. The most precise and tiniest piece is only 2mm. Hampered by such an artifactitious limit, a laser cutting machine is recommended since it would highly increase the accuracy of dimension on patterns. After the process, a further discussion on how the processing efficiency and speed have a major influence on quality and thickness of the board will be noted.
