Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東科技大學 === 社會工作系所 === 106 === With the increase in the disabled elderly in the general population, it is estimated that Taiwan will become a super-aged society in less than 10 years. The trend of ‘aging in place’ and ‘dying at home’ complicates home care workers’ job. Having to deal with various problems at work, they feel stressed, which results in a high turnover rate. The key issue of training plans for care workers within Taiwan’s long-term care policy does not concern being ‘unable to find care workers,’ but rather ‘why care workers won’t take up the job?’ and ‘why do they come and go?’ This research adopted in-depth interviews, a qualitative research technique; the aim was to explore the factors that contribute to the stress home care workers experience at work. Nine home care workers currently working in various places in Pingtung County were selected as the research subjects. Data were collected, compiled, and analyzed. The research findings were as follows: The primary factor that contributed to the stress that senior and junior home care workers experienced at work was the lack of comprehensive and effective countermeasures for preventing unpredictable situations because the focus of ‘service matchmaking’ was on establishing a good caring relationship. Another factor concerned home care workers’ ability to adapt to unpredictable situations. Improving novice home-care workers’ ‘ability to adapt to unpredictable situations’ to avoid manpower loss caused by stress at work is an important issue. In terms of policy, Taiwan’s competent authorities haven’t developed effective strategies to cope with the above-mentioned problem. It is hoped that effective measures can be provided to help home care workers relieve their stress, in order to increase their willingness to stay in their jobs, thereby avoiding manpower loss.
