Malaysian Chinese language presents a rich and multilingual mix phenomenon in accent, phrases, and syntactic expression. In written language, it is more often mixed with other languages and dialects which shows a multilingual entry (duo-yu-ru-wen, 多語入文) phenomenon. Therefore, the study aims to explore the multilingual use of Chinese language by Malaysian Chinese students in writing as well as the written strategies of Malaysian Chinese students in translanguaging. This qualitative research context is conducted at the SM Chong Hwa school in Malaysia. Data is collected from 119 essays of 64 high school students in two classes and teacher’s interviews. In terms of data analysis, the researcher applied member check and then analyzed and summarized the corpus in response to research questions based on research theories of Garcia (2009), Sebba (2013) and Shum, Mark Shiu Kee(2000). Three results were found. 1). Individuality: it refers to students’ writing errors in a variety of 119 essays. In sum, there are 1254“lexis”, “syntax” and “semantic” language errors. 2).Consistency: it refers to the most highly homogenous writing performance from 64 students, such as “Nadu(Dato,拿督)”, “Chui-Shui(吹水) ”, “Budekuong(不得 空) ”, and “Facebook(面子書)” which are the most representative examples of multilingual entry. 3). The strategy of correction shows the highest percentage and the strategy of addition is the lowest. This study was concluded that 1). the Malaysian formal Chinese written form mixed with Chinese language use from Taiwan and Hong Kong is an independent writing system which has its characteristics of commonality and uniqueness ; 2).the unique writing phenomenon of multilingual entry fully identifies Malaysian Chinese students multilingual thinking and multicultural background; 3). Translanguaging phenomena in Malaysian Chinese writing can be regarded as an inevitable phenomenon, in which the higher the number of correct translanguaging sentences is, the possibility of transadoption phenomenon can be frequent. There is a lack of relevant research on writing in the field of teaching Chinese as a second language. Through this study, the researcher would like to contribute some ideas so that other scholars or Chinese teachers can be better understand the importance of writing strategies and translanguaging and face up to the language and cultural authenticity of Malaysian Chinese writing.
