Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 表演藝術碩士學位學程 === 106 === ABSTRACT At the turn of the 19th and the 20th centuries, both of the East and West are subject to change, due to the factors coming from the political, cultural, economic, artistic, fashionable and social changes. With the impact of the Industrial Revolution and the rise of the middle class, the West pursued romanticism, and the western women participated in social activities. Meanwhile, in the late period of Qing dynasty of China, the East suffered the foreign invasions. The western culture was brought into the Chinese society, which gradually accepted the western culture. With the impacts coming from the thoughts between the old and the new, everything was subject to change, particularly the changes of the art, fashion, hairdressing styles, garments, and so on. These changes indeed manifest a new outlook of fashions between the old and new periods. The western art styles before the 20th century could be generally regarded as the pendulum between classicism and romanticism, bringing a significant impact on western arts, humanities, the fashion style of hairdo dressing, makeup, clothing, and so on. The West focuses on the decorative and formal aesthetics. However, the East is engaged with the pursuit of gorgeous and colorful expression and decoration, though under the eastern traditional ritual and metaphysics confinement. The development of hairdressing styles for women of both sides is quite different and interesting. Through the historical function as well as the regional, ethnic, and sexual differences, both sides demonstrate their unique cultures, arts, and humanities fashions: the western aesthetics mainly aspires to formal principle and order in pursuit of formal beauty, while the eastern aesthetics mainly aspires to natural principle and order between the heavens and the earth in pursuit of natural beauty. The aesthetic expression between both sides respectively expresses different styles of their own. Through the arrangement of women’s hairdressing styles between the East and the West, the study discovers the richness of hairdo changes, as the different social modes of both sides reveal different hairdos with their own uniqueness and charms. Then, the study further analyzed the hairdo features in order to induct and compare the similarities and differences of women’s hairdressing between both sides in the same period, and find their uniqueness. After the analysis collection and induction, the study discovers that today’s women hairdressing in occasions for, say, banquets and weddings are greatly different from those at the turn of the 19th and the 20th centuries, especially from the pictures concerning women’s hairdressing visual language representative of their own period obtained from the study. The researcher discovers that to appreciate women’s hairdressing beauty from both sides will bring the touches of the fashion arts as well as the new outline of expression with the change of fashion.
