It is rather difficult to be replenished for those finite battery power of nodes because of theirs operating environments is inaccessible. Therefore, the efficient power saving and the energy management for data transmission in WSNs are very important. In this paper, we propose a new probabilistic energy-based clustering algorithm (PECA) for power saving to enhance network performance in WSNs based on the traditional algorithm, LEACH (Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy). The proposed PECA concerns two factors. They are the remaining energy of the node and the consecutive rounds for waiting, i.e., the number of the consecutive rounds for the node which serves to be a CH (cluster-head). The PECA can adaptively adjust threshold value and its range in order to reduce the possibility of the node without sufficient energy becoming a CH. The simulation results indicate that the proposed PECA can adaptively and successfully select the number of the CH which is close to the pre-define p-value (i.e., the percentage of the number of the CH).
