The intergenerational effect illustrates a positive correlation between parents' education and children’s education; that is, the higher the level of parental education, the better the educational level of the children because parents’ educational interests spill over to their children. Taiwan’s higher education has expanded rapidly as that in a democratic country especially since Post-Martial Law Period. Emphasizing the importance of freedom and choice, everyone has the opportunity to strive for a better quality of life and conditions for themselves. The data analyzed in this study is from the Panel Study of Family Dynamics conducted in Taiwan. The research method is mainly based on the analysis of secondary data in the content analysis method. The objects of this study are children born between 1976 and 1989, aged over 25, and those parents born between 1935 and 1983 whose children were born between 1976 and 1989. The statistical method of this study starts with multi-category logistic regression analysis to understand the impact of higher education expansion policies on students with different backgrounds and family structures; then path analysis is used to certify the causal relationship of intergenerational effect. Finally, cluster analysis and differentiation analysis are adopted to explore the changing trend of different clusters between generations. After empirical analysis, the study obtained conclusions, and according to the research conclusions, this study provides relevant suggestions for future policies and research.
