Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 成人教育研究所 === 106 === Abstract Department: National Kaohsiung Normal University, Graduate Institute of Adult Education Organizational Development and Leadership Title: The Effects of Kaohsiung City Language Institute Director’s Humor and Leadership Strategy on Operational Performance Graduation Period and Subject: Master’s thesis abstract, second semester, 106 academic year Author: Shu-Fen Chuang Advisor: Cheng-Yen Wang, PhD The research focuses on “The Effects of Kaohsiung City Language Institute Director’s Humor and Leadership Strategy on Operational Performance” as its topic and direction. Questionnaires were sent out to investigate current state of the effects, with 500 valid samples recovered followed by sample analysis using methods including descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and consecutive multiple regression. After analyses and discussions, the main research findings are as follows: 1. In terms of overall sense of humor: subjects fall within “Agree” and “Strongly Agree”, demonstrating that Kaohsiung City language institute directors’ perception of humor is at normal to high. 2. In terms of overall leadership strategy: subjects fall between “Agree” and “Strongly Agree”, or medium to high. This demonstrates that directors have a rather high perception towards present state of leadership strategy. 3. In terms of overall operational performance: subjects fall between “Agree” and “Strongly Agree”, or medium to high. This demonstrates that directors have a rather high perception towards the present state of operational performance. 4. The stronger directors’ sense of humor (humor comprehension, humor formulation, humor response, and humor appreciation capabilities), the better they perform in terms of operational strategy (leading by example, common vision, challenging existing practices and motivation). 5. Directors of different age and lengths of service exhibit partial differences in aspect as well as overall operational performance. In accordance to research findings and conclusion, the research proposes the following suggestions to business owners and future research: I. Suggestions for language institution owners: 1. Implement employee benefits so that they receive adequate incentives. 2. Improve supervisor leadership styles to establish friendly operational spaces. 3. Strengthen operation to create new values. 4. Be service-oriented to achieve a win-win scenario. II. Suggestions for future research 1. Due to time, economic and personal constraints, the research only focuses on directors in Kaohsiung. Thus, there are limitations in terms of result deduction. Under more permissible circumstances, expanding scope of research subjects is recommended. Examples include working professionals, administrative staff of education authorities, students as well as parents in rest of Southern Taiwan or the entire nation. This is to adequately expand research deduction scope and reflect opinions from different parties. 2. The research purpose is to understand current state of director’s sense of humor, leadership strategy and operational performance. No further investigation concerning those institutions’ actual implementation took place. Thus, future research can conduct in-depth research on directors’ actual execution of respective marketing strategies. This may enrich data as well as integrity, providing aspiring educators with more defined directions and approaches. 3. The research mainly focuses on literature review and quantified research to conduct analysis and discussion. Findings can only unveil the general picture. Thus, it is recommended that future relevant research adopt qualitative approaches such as case studies, in-depth interviews to collect more detailed information. They can also select several different language centers for comparison analysis or engage in long-term observation of those language centers’ actual implementing of their marketing strategies as well as interaction between staff and respective institutions. Future researchers may acquire more realistic and convincing data. Keywords: sense of humor, leadership strategy, operational performance
