碩士 === 南華大學 === 建築與景觀學系 === 106 === 　　Zhongzheng Road, which is also called Ertong Road, needs to be revitalized. Since the 1980s, commercial activities began to decline. "The Image Commercial District launched by the Department of Commerce in 1998, Ministry of Economic Affairs" was a failure, further led to the depression of this historical street for almost 20 years until now. This research observes the way this new revitalization movement brings to Zhongzheng Road and how the degenerate community is going to recover through the efforts contributed by the residents. Whether this movement changes the residents’ awareness is the primary issue behind this research. This research uses different methods such as the literature analysis, direct observation and interviews to compare the differences between the old and the new revitalization movement taking place in Zhongzheng Road. Meanwhile, during the process of investigating this Community Renaissance Project, we get to realize how the involvement of the residents as well as the connection with the local change the consciousness of the residents, establishing the basis of the following revitalization movement. By interviews, lectures and meetings, after collecting the residents’ opinions, we are able to determine if there is any change in the consciousness of the residents. 　　We found from this research that after the revitalization movement of Zhongzheng Road, in terms of the residents’ consciousness, younger generation tends to be more ambitious compared to the older generation, which can be revealed from the actions taken following the end of the project. In order to revitalize Zhongzheng Road, on one hand, some issues have to be fixes. For instance, a pedestrian-friendly environment has to be built and a new business model pattern must be figured out. On the other hand, although some people do not live on this road, they pay more attention and get involved more deeply than residents living on this road. This is because of the recognition and collective memories those people hold toward Zhongzheng Road. We look forward to the continuously active revitalization movement in the following days, stimulating the residents to form an organization autonomously, the aim of which is to improve to status quo of Zhongzheng Road.
