There are more than 20,000 cases of out of hospital cardiac arrest each year in Taiwan. The families of the patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest usually go to the emergency room of the hospitals under non-expectation and no psychological preparation. Most of the medical personnel of the emergency room pay the attention to the patients’ condition, and are subsequently easy to ignore the needs of their families. As a result, the families may easily happen misunderstanding and distrust to the medical personnel in advance. It is necessary for the medical personnel of emergency room to understand the family's feelings and family needs and related factors. Purpose: The purpose of this study investigated the relationships between family coping and family needs and their influential factors in patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional and correlational research design. Twenty six family members of the patients with out of hospital cardiac arrest were recruited from emergency rooms and intensive care units of a teaching hospital and a regional hospital in Taipei area or home visits using convenience sampling. The structural questionnaires including demographics, Jalowiec coping and Critical Care Family Needs Inventory scales were used to collect data. SPSS 22.0 software package for statistical analysis were used, and data were analyzed by descriptive statistics including percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviations, and inferential statistics including Pearson’s product-moment correlation, Wilcoxon rank sum test, t-test, and multiple regression. Results: The problem-focused coping in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patient's family is used more than emotion-focused coping. The most important needs of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patient's family are “communication and information” and followed by “support needs” and “participation in care”. “comfort” is the least important. Family education level and marital status are the important factors affecting the coping. The outcomes of first aid, patient age, gender of family, and problem-focused coping are the important factors affecting the family needs. Conclusion: The findings of the study will be the reference for the clinical nursing practice, nursing education, nursing research and related policy making. In advance, it will improve the quality of care for the family members of such patients. WANG, KWUA-YUN 王桂芸 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 81 zh-TW
