Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 臺灣文化學系 === 106 === In contemporary context, the usage of electric bikes (called e-bikes for short hereafter) becomes more common not only in urban areas, but also in rural Vietnam as well. The globalization distributes commodities far and wide, including modernized and technological products. Since 1987, the series of Doi Moi (renovation) policies has been practiced in Vietnam. National economy started integrating dramatically in the world’s market. Moreover, the integration also directs the dramatic changes in rural areas. Young villagers are able to access state-of-the-art means of transportation, which provides them with considerable convenience. The daily usage of e-bike, either for education or for other purposes, has changed young people’s lifestyle and relationship. In addition, these changes partially contribute to the rural urbanization process of the whole community. Vu Yen, which is a rural commune of northern Vietnam, would be examined in terms of e-bike usage among secondary and high school students by utilizing participant observation and face-to-face interview method. The usage of electric bikes among young people is a distinct image which helps to understand the connection between personal vehicle usage with development process of a rural area.
