He is a quite popular author in Japan and he is honoured as nationalistic author. The background of his most best selling novels are recent period in Japanese history, but his writing is full of heroism,so it cause that readers think he is a patriot. In addition, because right wing organization proposes the Shiba Historical view, so many people think that he is a nationalist. However, Ryotaro Shiba is totally not. There are a lot of research about Ryotaro Shiba in Japan, Taiwan and China, but most of them focus on one area or one novel. Therefore, the main idea of this study is trying to explore Ryoutarou Shiba's thinking from the large-scale view, also break up the label of "nationalist". First of all, I collate and re-organize his works in three period, and then analysis his most important perspective "Shiba-rationalism" from his late non-fiction works in order to establish his perspective on Asia. second, his "Taiwan Travelogue" causes much controversy in Asia, especially in China and Taiwan because it records the dialogue between "Ryotaro Shiba" and "Lee Teng-hui" in its appendix which is believed to instigate Taiwan to independent country in purpose. I also explores the genuine purpose of "Taiwan Travelogue", and summarize in this research through studying his "nationalism". Finally, we can understand his opinion on development of human beings and different countries in the trend of globalization, which is that we should develope diversely through liberal, open, and rational thinking.
