In 2017, the total number of workers in Taiwan reached to 670,000. Their using of space has become an important issue. In particular, there is a phenomenon of spatial superposition in their everyday live. For them, public space is both for work and leisure. Migrant workers can be found between public and private field in public space. This research aims to investigate the differences of migrant workers’ spatial performance between public and private field in public space in the northern district of Taichung City. Moreover, the research is going to explore the variety of using of public space. In-depth interview were adopted to interview 15 migrant workers and 21 citizen users of public space. The results show that four themes such as “daily works”, “space selection and performance on workdays”, “space selection and performance on holidays” and“ space interaction with other users” to understand the work of migrant workers in the homes of their employers and extend them to outdoor workdays and leisure public spaces. Finally, we discuss the actual interaction between the migrant workers and other users in the same space. From the above four themes, depending on the different employers which resulted to various daily works and circumstances. The community park that the migrant workers visit on workdays show the work and self of migrant workers at the same time. For the migrant workers who are inconvenient to use network functions in their employers’ homes, they will also transfer the “virtual backstage” to the community park at the same time. The leisure space is a public private field that can temporarily escape the role of employees and show a more self, through clothing or behavior. Finally, referring to the interaction of the migrant workers with other users in the public and private field, migrant workers’ public space in the public field is a heterogeneous space with common use of non-exclusive, the public space in the private field is a heterogeneous space that presents partial exclusion, partial inclusion, and resistance. Conclusion and extension pointed to that, migrant workers are closely related to their employers no matter, on workdays or holidays. They can only show themselves in a limited time. Their social networks are single and limited, so “leisure” is very important to them. Hope to remind users in public space to include them who are owned limited time and space. Sending more tolerance, instead of giving stereotypes or exclusivity. Song, Yu- Ling 宋郁玲 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 86 zh-TW |
