Abstract
This thesis aims to examine the influence of the spatiotemporal concept on various aspects of cultures in the Six dynasties. Time and space, they are everywhere, the application of this concept including the observation of heavenly bodies, establishment of official calendar, recitation and chanting among literati, the way people deal with difficulties in life, the cross-border imagination of other universes, and even people’s daily life and religions.
The spatiotemporal concept comprises two crucial elements, which are obviously time and space. By this following idea, we are able to learn that politics, astronomy, society, transport, literature, art, healthcare, education, geography, religion, and philosophy, etc. are comprised in this concept, and they are applicable to logical principles and the learning can be deductive through reasoning. In addition, it also refers to the existence of circumstances and emotions of human beings in the very moment and space, and therefore become the objects of perception which can be empathized and experienced.
This thesis was explored in four different steps. First, an induction was made from the outer factors of the spatioltemporal concept on the basis of the background of time and space in the Six dynasties. Second, the focus on the concept of “time” was shifted from the objective to the subjective time perception. Third, the concept of “space” was brought into the attention, and the “virtual space” and then the “real space” were examined. Lastly, when the concepts of time and space are integrated, it results in the issue of “Being”, comprising the existence of self-consciousness, the expression of sentiments, and the creations of the Wen文, as well as personal encounters in life and the disappearance of life, and it further advances the discussion of the spatioltemporal concept due to the influence of “Being”.
