The background of this study is based on a prejudice towards gender differences that the family should belong to women in traditional thought. In this regard, technological innovation also may have gender prejudice. The purpose of this study was to explore the gender issues of the development of Smart Home. How does the information appliance of the Smart Home emerge in the behaviors of housekeeping? Dose the implication of gender differences apply into the development of Smart home. The study adopted a survey and collected one hundred and ninety-eight valid questionnaires. We explored the gender difference by Importance and Performance Analysis (IPA) and had following results: (a) by the theory of information quality we found that three demisions of immediate, useful information and continuous updated information are important for women; (b) both demensions in terms of important performance of operation of the entire system and the process of encryption data are lower; (c) we found that anti-theft notification for women is very important in the functional characteristics. However, gender differences for women are not important in the usefulness of smart home. Finally, this study is expected to explore the technological development of smart home under the gender difference in order to improve the prejudice of society and to have further implication for technology industries.
