First, the sound field covered only the interior of the muffler. Secondly, the sound field was expanded to the inner space within the compressor. Expanding the simulation space of sound gave different results from the simulation of the muffler. The reduction effects of sound with different designs of mufflers are then compared by examining the values of performance index which is defined as the sum of inner pressures on the compressor’s shell. Beside simulation work, this thesis also presents the design of an impedance tube for measuring acoustic properties of materials, including sound absorbing materials used in compressors.
