Organizations within a supply chain are highly vulnerable to unexpected events; however, firms can reduce the likelihood of making mistakes and errors can be properly processed before the damage is expanded by enhancing the sense of “mindfulness.” Many firms have been adopting inter-organizational systems to enhance information sharing and coordination in the supply chain with the aim of reducing the likelihood of mistakes and enhancing supply chain reliability. Nonetheless, the relationships among supplier integration, interfirm mindfulness, and supply chain reliability have yet to be fully elucidated. Our objective is to determine whether supplier integration increases interfirm mindfulness between a firm and suppliers and whether interfirm mindfulness and supplier integration both contribute to supply chain reliability. In this study, we collected survey data from the top 1000 Taiwanese manufacturing firms to test our hypotheses. Our results revealed that supplier integration is positively associated with interfirm mindfulness. We also showed that interfirm mindfulness is positively associated with supply chain reliability. Our results elucidate the influence of supplier integration and interfirm mindfulness on supply chain reliability, delivering theoretical and practical implications. Eric T.G.
