Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立交通大學 === 機械工程系所 === 106 === Recently, development of research and research on non-toxic propellant for future space vehicles and satellites have gained great attention. The present study experimentally investigates the application of nitrous oxide (N2O) to a thruster engine. Of particular interest is the effect of the catalyst bed on the engine thrust and performance. Two catalyst beds with diameters of 20 and 15 mm and a length of 50 mm are tested, and the decomposition of nitrous oxide (N2O) are analyzed upon the temperature distribution in the catalyst bed. The preliminary results show that an engine with a catalyst diameter of 20 mm produces a maximum thrust of 15.4 gf and a specific impulse ( Isp ) of 101.4 s with a nitrous oxide (N2O) mass flow rate of 0.15 g/s, while a catalyst diameter of 15 mm produces a maximum thrust of 13 gf and a specific impulse ( Isp ) of 86 s with the same mass flow rate of nitrous oxide (N2O).
