To understand their acculturation challenges and coping strategies. The study involved four expatriate men whom are married to Taiwanese, and have stayed in Taiwan for at least five years. In-depth interviews were conducted firsts to obtain textual data, which then transcribed into transcripts. Hennie Boeije’s “spiral of analysis” was adopted as the path of analysis, which leads to the results. The results summarized as follows, the acculturation challenges of married expatriate men in Taiwan: (1) frustration of language weakness; (2) differences in humanities and customs in the social environment; (3) difference in interpersonal communication as direct vs. indirect; (4) dwarfing and expansion of self-worth. The acculturation coping strategies of married expatriate men in Taiwan: (1) strengthen cross-cultural communication skills; (2) deepen the emotional connection to the locals; (3) self-adjustment in a positive attitude; (4) to apply multicultural understanding in accepting differences. Further discussion and recommendations are based on the results. SIANG-HUA TEY 趙祥和 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 99 zh-TW |
