This study further analyzed the process in which stepfamilies demonstrated family resilience and how children interpreted the experience of living in a stepfamily meant to them and their growth. As a qualitative research, this study included data collection through in-depth interviews and narrative analysis that analyzed the process in which the stepfamilies of five participants demonstrated resilience. The main findings are as follows: 1.Analysis of the course of family development from stepchildren’s point of view suggests that it can be divided into five stages: fantasy, patch-up, awareness and action, immersion, and resolution. 2.Family resilience is associated with (1) whether the influence of positive outlooks or beliefs is present in terms of the ability to demonstrate belief systems and reinterpret the meaning of ‘adversities’; (2) cooperation between family members, a sense of family bonding and socioeconomic resources in the matter of demonstrating organizational patterns; and (3) whether there are clear and specific communications and whether attention is given to talking about problems in the matter of demonstrating communication processes. 3.The ways in which stepfamilies influence stepchildren include: greater inclusiveness and adaptability, acute reflectiveness, positive interpretation of life experiences and a stronger sense of family obligation. It is hoped that the findings of this study can help social workers, educators and professionals in related fields to psychology understand the course in which stepfamilies demonstrate family resilience and avoid looking at such families from a problem-oriented point of view.
The main findings are as follows:
1.Analysis of the course of family development from stepchildren’s point of view suggests that it can be divided into five stages: fantasy, patch-up, awareness and action, immersion, and resolution.
