Japanese direct investment in China is a significant part of Japanese foreign direct investment. This paper analyzes Japanese direct investment in China from 2008 to 2017 and then makes readers who are interested in Sino-Japanese economic relations more clearly understand the essence, evolution and development trend of Japanese direct investment in China. The author believes that Japanese direct investment in China is part of international direct investment and can be analyzed using the theory of international direct investment. The research in this paper found that Chinese overall investment environment and foreign investment-related policies are the host country location specific advantages mentioned in the eclectic theory of international production. Changes in location specific advantages will inevitably affect the state of Japanese direct investment in China. In addition, the fluctuations in political relations which is political risks between China and Japan will also affect Japanese direct investment in China to some extent. In terms of chapter arrangements, this paper is divided into three parts. The first two chapters review the literature on the theory of international direct investment and the prior research on Japanese direct investment in China. Chapters 3 through 6 analyze the four aspects of " the host country Chinese investment environment during 2008-2017", "the overall situation of Japanese direct investment in China", " Analysis cases of Japanese investment in various regions of China", and "problems and prospects of Japanese direct investment in China", and the last chapter clarifies the findings and looks forward to future research.
