Also, the study is to explore relationships between reading motivations and reading behaviors of junior high school students in terms of their backgrounds. In this study, survey research will be adopted as its research approach, the questionnaires will be used as its data collection instruments, and its selected sample of individuals is going to consist of 644 7th-to-9th-grade students from Pingyun Junior High School in Changhua. The two questionnaires which will be used are administered to assess all respondents’ reading motivations and their reading behaviors. The data obtained is going to be analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Chi-square test, Pearson product-moment correlation, and multiple step-wise regression analysis. The main findings are listed below: 1. The level of reading motivations of all the respondents is moderate-high. 2. The level of reading behaviors of all the respondents is moderate-low. 3. The three reading types, literary works, novels, and nonfictions are read the most. 4. In terms of all the respondents’ backgrounds, there is a significant difference in their reading motivations. 5. In terms of their backgrounds, there is also a significant difference in their reading behaviors. 6. In terms of their backgrounds, there is no significant difference in the reading span aspect of reading behaviors. 7. There is a significant relationship between all the respondent’s reading motivations and reading behaviors. 8. The reading motivations of all the respondents can predict their reading behaviors. The findings in this sutdy provide some suggestions. 1. We should help our students develop the habits of reading. 2. We can enrich the resources of family reading. 3. We can try to encourage parental involvement in children’s reading. 4. We have to encourage extensive reading over different kinds of materials. JEW,LIN-JEN 卓立正 2018 學位論文 ; thesis 91 zh-TW
