Nowadays, with the advancement in technology, there are numerous channels that allow the public to conveniently access a wide selection of film productions without being restricted to physically attending a movie theatre. Examples of other mediums include internet, and mobile devices.Since the motion picture could convey the filmmakers’ ideas to the public, especially in reiterating the importance of certain social values, points of views. So the motion picture could be influential to the public. The movie to the society is analogous to the police force to the general public. In this essay, we will use police force as an example to illustrate how police image can impact the general public’s judgment towards security and morality in different social values. We will elaborate this topic through analyzing the role of a police officer in comparison with both western and oriental film productions. I will discuss the movies like Crash (an American production), Beijing Blues (a Chinese production), Infernal Affairs (a Hong Kong production), and Police Force and The Swithch, films by a Taiwanese director, Tsai YangMing,to analyze the roles and images of policeman and their relationship with society. The methodologies used for this study include literature survey method, film textualanalysis, and in-depth interviews. The conclusion is that police image is related to four aspects of culture, duty, value and conflict. For this purpose, we had an interview with director, Tsai Yang-Ming, who was known as the lead of Taiwanese Ganster Films and won the title of Honorary Award in 2013 Asian Film Festival in New York. According to the study, the following findings are as such: 1. Film has a tight connection with society and can also be influential to people, especially shown in culture. 2. Positive police image on the screen can promote good impression of policemen in reality, help the public to better understand their role in society, and benefit the police organization. 3. The works of Taiwanese Director Tsai Yang-Ming introduced an unique genre in crime films, which offered a perspective on crime issue on the screen and in reality. His works deserve to be looked upon. 4. Due to the influential impact that films have over the public, police organizations can consider using film production as a source of advertisement to build relationship with the general public. The result of this research and its findings could be used as a preliminary reference for the institutes of police education and film production company for further studies.
