Summary: | 碩士 === 康寧大學 === 資訊傳播研究所 === 107 === The purpose of this study is to understand the Internet usage of fifth and sixth graders in Tainan City. The study analyzes the Internet usage and personal relationship of fifth and sixth graders of different genders in order to explore the correlation between the Internet usage and personal relationship.
This study uses questionnaire survey as methodology and uses convenience sampling to collect research data from an elementary school in Tainan. The research target group is fifth and sixth graders in 2018 school year and the research tool is the questionnaire of the Internet usage of these students in Tainan City. In this study, 245 valid samples, among which 244 samples are from Internet users. According to these 244 samples with Internet experience, we analyze these collected samples through statistical descriptions, independent-sample t test, and pearson product-moment correlation. The results are as followed:
1. Almost 90% of fifth and sixth graders use the Internet and they mostly use the Internet at home. Most of them use the Internet with a limited time, usually one hour in the weekday and one to three hours in holidays. However, few students use the Internet without any time limit. Most fifth and sixth graders use the Internet for the entertainment to relieve academic pressure, followed by killing time when they feel bored. They mostly use the Internet to play online games, followed by sharing pictures via social media and watching multimedia video clipsonline.
2. The gender factor has a great impact on the Internet usage among fifth and sixth graders. Boy’s overall Internet dependence behavior and Internet usage are significantly higher than girl’s, while there is no significant difference in online social behavior among different genders.
3. The Internet usages of students in different grades are significantly different. Sixth graders more often use the Internet for online social behavior than fifth graders, while there is no significant difference in the Internet dependent behaviors and the overall Internet usage.
4. The difference genders and grades have no significant impact on their personal relationship.
5. Fifth and sixth graders’online social behaviors and overall Internet usage have low correlation with their personal relationship, while the Internet dependent has no significant correlation with their personal relationship.
Base on the finding, implications and suggestions for future research of this study were discussed.
