This study investigates the wire coils commonly used in the fastener industry. Three wire coils, AISI 1010, 1022 and 10B21, are investigated with tensile tests to obtain their ductility and the tensile strength. It is revealed experimentally that the wire stability of wire quality is essentially affected by the spheroidized annealing treatment and drawing of wire. Heavily drawing leads to serious strain hardening and poor ductility of wire. In order to obtain high strength for low-carbon wire coils, they are drawn without spheroidizing. Although the strength of the wire coil is increased, the ductility is reduced, the formability is relatively poor, and the wear of the mold is increased. The spheroidized annealing wire has a relatively stable tensile strength and well ductility, which is beneficial for forming, but with poor ductility stability. By twice of wire drawing, the greater is the reduction ratio, the more increasing is the tensile strength, however, the ductility would be reduced relatively.
