Nowadays, 1000 low voltage AMI household demonstration systems have been built in Taiwan. However, there are shortcomings in these systems which make the communication unstable and hard to repair as well as maintaining. An improved route B communication architecture will be proposed in this thesis. Firstly, the current low voltage AMI system which includes communication technologies of Wi-SUN and HomePlug, and communication protocols of DLMS/COSEM and TaiSEIA 101 is analyzed. Then the improved architecture which integrates touch screen with Linux based embedded system and reduces connection between communication module and meter gateway is proposed and designed to generate a new complete system. The improved architecture is installed for long-term running test in order to verify the functions of data deliver in smart meter gateway based on DLMS/COSEM, power usage data visualization, uploading data to cloud and controlling smart appliances over TaiSEIA 101 protocol. Results show that improved architecture has advantages of smaller dimensions, easier to maintain and lower cost. Proposed improved system can serve as an alternative reference for Taipower to realize route B communication system.
