The data were collected through qualitative research techniques, specifically observations, documents and interviews. The interviews were conducted with various key people such as government officials, merchants and visitors in the park. It was hoped to inform the governors and park managers about promoting greater prosperity of cultural and creative sectors for sustainable development.
Huashan 1914 Creative Park is designed to serve as Taiwan’s primary showcase for cultural and creativity industries and a hub for inspiring and nurturing the spirits of creativity in Taipei City. Although the park does add artistic atmosphere to the city, it is now found to be too commercialized. In order to provide greater stability into the future, the effects of commodification should be re-examined in terms of its influence on the development of cultural and creative industries.
The result of the investigation suggests the following: (1) There needs to be reconsideration of the effects of commodification on the development of the cultural and creative industry. (2) The quality and number of cultural products should be increased whereas the number of food service outlets should be reduced. (3) It is important to keep the pubic and creative practitioners informed of the key role of cultural and creative industries in the society. (4) The park could consider to expand the business by providing room for the integration of culture, creativity and education. (5) Finally, the cultural heritage needs to be checked regularly, maintained and preserved as needed.
