Summary: | 碩士 === 中華醫事科技大學 === 生物科技系暨生物醫學研究所 === 106 === Due to economic development, wastewater from domestic, industrial and agricultural activities has been becoming serious problems in Jiang-jyum River basin. This study discuss water quality of Jiang-jyum River and develop management strategy to improve it. River Pollution Index ( RPI ), consisting of dissolved oxygen ( DO ), biological oxygen demand ( BOD5 ), suspended solids ( SS ), and ammonia nitrogen ( NH3-N ), is selected as the main indicator of water quality in this study. The data from “Environmental Water Quality Information” website operated by Environmental Protection Association, Executive Yuan( 2003 to 2012 ), and “River Quality Monitoring” website operated by Environmental Protection Bureau of Tainan City Government ( 2013 to 2017 ) is analysed for evaluating the change of water quality in Jiang-jyum River from 2003 to 2017. Furthermore, water sampling and testing in seven Jiang-jyum River monitoring points was conducted over the period of one year ( 2016 to 2017 ) to verify the data mentioned above. The results show that water quality of Jiang-jyum River was among Moderately-Polluted to Severely-Polluted level. In order to improve water quality of Jiang-jyum River, a comprehensive strategy should be implemented, including infrastructure construction and adult education. On the one hand, the point source pollution need to be managed effectively because there are a great number of livestock farms and industries along Jiang-jyum River. Wastewater treatment plant and sewage system construction is also needed. On the other hand, environmental education should be provided to enhance citizens’
