| Summary: | 碩士 === 弘光科技大學 === 老人福利與事業研究所 === 106 === In Taiwan, the aging population has been dramatically increasing and at the same time the number of people diagnosed with dementia has been rising at a significant level. These conditions further lead to a higher demand for care. The improvement of seniors’ cognitive competence has thus become an unavoidable issue the society has to face and pay attention to, especially the caregivers of the elders. Therefore, the purpose of this study is: first, understand the competencies caretakers have to possess for seniors’ cognitive promotion; second, analysis the competencies caretaker have to strengthen for seniors’ cognitive promotion; and third, giving descriptions and suggestions of the content for developing caretaker competencies to help seniors’ cognitive promotion. A questionnaire survey was made by this study. A total of 362 valid samples were collected. The findings of the study are as follows: (1) The important functions of providing dementia should include self-adaptability and group communication skills. (2) Providing cognitive promotion functions for people with dementia should include strengthening disease awareness and first aid training. (3) Caretakers are able to provide cognitive services to people with dementia and promote functional development through education and training and multi-practical courses.
