During the processes of building bricks, however, it usually takes a lot of efforts to pick the most suitable brick color to achieve the best visual effect. Previous studies focused primarily on the structural stability and the geometric similarity of building bricks and paid less attention to the color information of bricks. When we build color bricks for real objects, therefore, we have to prepare more bricks with different colors and match the color difference manually. These procedures for building bricks need more time and more bricks. In order to build 3D colored brick models from real objects, methods and steps are proposed in this thesis. (1) The real objects are scanned into a 3D model by using the methods of Lai Chia-Hsin [1]. (2) The 3D model is colored by using a freeware manually. (3) The cellular automata with cell clustering algorithm [8] is used to transform the 3D (voxelization) model into several 2D layers. (4) After the color space conversion from RGB to CIELAB, the Delta-E measurement between the model color and the building brick color code table is proposed to obtain the approximate building brick color. (5) Use the information obtained from the previous steps to complete the model using bricks. From our experiments, our proposed methods can reduce the bricks used and prepared and the final model built from bricks is more realistic with proper colors.
