Summary: | 碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 金融與國際企業學系金融碩士班 === 106 === This paper explores the effect of greenwashing activities on accrual-based earnings management by the data of Chinese A-shares market from 2011 to 2016. The definition of greenwash is based on the China Greenwash List published annually by the Southern Weekly. The empirical results show that there is a negative correlation between greenwashing activities of A-shares enterprises and the accrual-based earnings management, which means that these enterprises will be less inclined to do accrual-based earnings management. The significantly and negatively correlation between the A-shares greenwashing activities and accrual-based earnings management still hold after adding other control variables. In addition, this paper founds that the sales cost did not change the negative effect of the greenwashing on accrual-based earnings management significantly, and the financial leverage would significantly weaken the negative effect of the greenwashing activities on accrual-based earnings management. In addition, this paper focus on the effect of China Greenwash List, and the H-shares enterprises may be less affected by the China Greenwash List, the results of the empirical analysis are not significant and inconclusive. Therefore, this paper is unable to verify the impact of H-shares greenwashing activities on earnings management.
