| Summary: | 碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 宗教學系 === 106 === Japanese animations nowadays contain multiple aspects to the subject, “Magical Girl” is one among others, their contents are mostly narrating title-characters equipped full of love and righteousness, become the magical girls and use magic to defeat the villains and then live happily ever after. As a magical girl subject animation, ”Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie” is different from the past, subverted typical contents of the other magical girl animation works: Keep on going with love and passion, can attain nothing but tragedy. The magical girl is mortal in "Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie". Love, brave and hope as themes of this work are functioning to present the “Reality is cruel” clear in truth. This thesis analyzed the movie through narratology, discussed religious implications of the movie with the Sacred & the Profane theories by Mircea Eliade, verified binary opposition perspective between hope and despair by Eliade’s theories, and verified metaphors of hierophany and soteriology in the action of becoming magical girl of title-role.
