And to understand the changing of the times in a deeper way, we must go on learning how people view the God from different times. For example, during a prosperous era, people usually believe in the God and try to surpass the Nature, while during a recession era, people stop believing in the God and start chasing nihilistic ideas. Thus, if we view the generating of Han Fu from the aspect of the rise and fall of the times, we’ll find that the meaning of Han Fu is closely associated to the character and the mainstream ideology of that specific time when the literature is made. So, analyzing the generating of Han Fu is analyzing the deep meaning of the era in essence.
Zhang Xuecheng said that the sacred meaning of words is to be applied into the life of both the aristocracy and the commoners, in which the aristocracy use the words to govern the country while the commoners to understand the world. And that is exactly the original meaning of the words when literature hasn’t yet transformed into self-expressing pieces. In that case, the rhetoric, which is used as both the appearance and the expressing of thoughts, would definitely change as the times are changing. So the signals of rhetoric changes will fundamentally indicate to the generating of Han Fu, in which the rhetoric of the ancient diplomats, Zongheng jia, Qu Yuan and Song Yu all becomes important elements during the whole generating period, and lead to the monism constructed by Chunqiu if Han Dynasty, chronologically and logically. Limited by the timeline and logic, the original meaning of Han Fu would be distinct, and the disagreement in understanding particular piece of Han Fu would also be cleared.
