Many countries have incorporated the IoT into the economic development strategies. Manufacturing are expected to be the largest economic applications in the future. The operating model of the company will change due to new technologies. The operating model determines whether a company can make a profit or not. This study explores the relationship between the IoT and manufacturing activities. First, through the literature review method and the expert interview method to understand the process of manufacturing activities, and build a generic model of cause-and-effect loops for manufacturing activities. Second, use this model as a basis to conduct case study, analyzing the advantages and disadvantages systematically. Finally, it was found that the cost of equipment and IoT applicability are key factors for smart manufacturing. It’s recommended that case company should import the smart sales platform first and then import the IoT manufacturing equipment to face the impact of global manufacturing service.
