A Study on Migrant Workers’ Place Identity, Place Dependence and Loyalty of Taichung City’s ASEAN Square

The migrant workers have gathered in ASEAN square since ten years ago, so ASEAN square has already been a leisure area of migrant workers. The economic activities of this place has been restored but some problems occurred. Therefore, this study tried to find out the causes. The purpose of this study is to explore the dependency of migrant workers in ASEAN square. According to previous studies, the “place attachment” is divided into “place dependence” and “place identity” combined with “loyalty”. The factor analysis is used to understand the differences between the three. This study adopts a two-process research method of qualitative and quantitative. First, use a questionnaire form. Sampling questionnaire method was-used, 333 questionnaires were distributed and 330 valid questionnaires were collected. The SPSS 19.0 for Window statistical application software for statistical analysis was utilized, including: independent sample T test, factor analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. The second process, field study and interview method were used to analysis the result of first process that why the place dependence was relatively low. The result of research is that the leisure needs of migrant workers were failed to meet and the environment was not friendly. Therefore, the result is revealed a low level of dependence. The recommendation form this research is that increasing leisure furniture on the square and improving equipment to meet the needs for migrant workers. After the environment improved, the degree of place attachment of ASEAN square will be increased. For migrant workers, the quality of the environment and the number of seats are the factors that they consider. Place dependence can affect loyalty more than place identity. If the degree of place dependence cannot be increased, relative loyalty will also decline.
