This paper is focus on building up a new model of production planning and scheduling system for cold drawn steel bar of W company. The original system is based on the logical of FCFS (First Come First Served) which obviously has the defects of low utilization of equipment, high setup times and poor control and schedule of the source material, which results in long lead time and high material inventory. By using the Group Method on the new model, the setup time between difference specifications has been shortened, and a better control of source material has also been improved. The result is the shipping schedule is more accurate and the lead time is shorter. For the equipment with full load all year round, the reduction on setup time means higher utilization and also means more output. The new model has been on line for test on June 2017 and has been verified its achievement on less setup time, shorter lead time as well as higher production output. These facts confirm that the new model of production planning and scheduling system on cold drawn steel bar established by W company has higher efficiency and owns more advantages than the used FCFS system.
