The three dimensional models of gears of the reducer were created by computer-aided design (CAD) software. The stiffness coefficients between engaged gears were determined by Hertz contact theory, and were imported into the software of dynamic simulation to investigate the dynamic behavior of the reducer. In the process of simulation, the output axis of assemblies of gears or the output axis of reducer was applied with a reverse torque with respect to the direction of the input axis in which a virtual motor power was added to maintain three different constant angular velocities for different simulation cases. The results of torque and angular velocity from simulation were in good agreement with those from the relationship of gear reduction ratio. The simulation results show that the variations of angular velocities affect the fluctuation of contact forces significantly. The contact forces distribute in gears of the reducer more uniformly comparing with the gears in assemblies of gears.
