This study was a case study. The structured task was designed basicly and concentrated on the unit of “similar shapes”. And then, the semi-structured interview technique was conducted to collect and analyze the students’ process of problem solving. The major findings of this study were as follows: (1) The most students’ problem solving process show five steps: reading, analysis, exploration, planning and implementation. (2) The more complicated the more steps were used. (3) The reasons of the fault answers were: being uncareful, using the wrong data and being unable to analyze the questions efficiently to solve problems besed on the clues. (4) The students’ problem solving strategies were similar. Most of them searched conditions before observing shapes. (5) The students’ stragies of problem solving are as follows: search clues, obser shapes, find the regular patterns, observe and compare, delete options, list the regular patterns, compare the options, observe and inference, practice the regular patterns, inference and calculate, infer the base model, calculate the symboles, draw the auxiliary lines, and so on. According to the findings, this study provide some suggestions for students, their parents, teachers and the future researchers to help students learn effectively in the unit of similar shapes. It also assisted their parents and teachers to understand how to improve the students’ learning process, and provide useful proposals for future related researchers. 碩士 === 中華大學 === 企業管理學系 === 107 === The purpose of this study was to explore the five nineth students’ problem solving
process in mathematics literacy - standard based - assessment. This study was a case study.
The structured task was designed basicly and concentrated on the unit of “similar shapes”.
And then, the semi-structured interview technique was conducted to collect and analyze
the students’ process of problem solving.
The major findings of this study were as follows: (1) The most students’ problem
solving process show five steps: reading, analysis, exploration, planning and
implementation. (2) The more complicated the more steps were used. (3) The reasons of
the fault answers were: being uncareful, using the wrong data and being unable to analyze
the questions efficiently to solve problems besed on the clues. (4) The students’ problem
solving strategies were similar. Most of them searched conditions before observing shapes.
(5) The students’ stragies of problem solving are as follows: search clues, obser shapes,
find the regular patterns, observe and compare, delete options, list the regular patterns,
compare the options, observe and inference, practice the regular patterns, inference and
calculate, infer the base model, calculate the symboles, draw the auxiliary lines, and so on.
According to the findings, this study provide some suggestions for students, their
parents, teachers and the future researchers to help students learn effectively in the unit of
similar shapes. It also assisted their parents and teachers to understand how to improve the
students’ learning process, and provide useful proposals for future related researchers.
