During the time span of 1.5 years for the status research and the information collection of the old trees in Taiwan, a total of 176 trees have been studied including 27 trees in the yard of office bureaus, 44 on school campus, 17 along the streets, 6 in the parking lot, 42 in the private yards, 24 in the parks and 16 on the pedestrian pathways. This analysis of the correlation to the soil quality and the growth of the old trees help us understand how the nutrient composition of soil cast influence on the growth factors of the old trees in the aspects of the tree types as well as the ages. Counting on this analysis data it is to hope that we could locate an effective method to conserve precious tree species along with urban development to achieve the goal of long-term development of the cities. The result shows that the soils in different regions have distinguished differences in terms of their acidity level and chemical compositions. Along the street sides where left attended, the levels of organic compounds, potassium oxide, calcium oxide and magnesium oxide are obviously low; while in the yards, despite the insufficient management, the levels of the organic compounds, potassium oxide, calcium oxide and magnesium oxide are relatively high. As for the yards of the office bureaus and the school campus, the gathered averages have no noticeable variance. To conclude, it is urgent for the official responsible to enhance its protection on the old trees and establish the corresponding bureau to perform the duty.
